"I'm an alcoholic. I'm a drug addict. I'm homosexual. I'm a genius." Thus Truman Capote, the man who sketched ruthless killers in "In Cold Blood" and exquisite socialites in "Breakfast at Tiffany's", once famously described himself. These four facets of his most remarkable personality -- not to mention numerous others -- are explored in "Tru", a one-man show adapted from the author's own words and work. It's 1975, a week before Christmas, and Capote is holed up in his Manhattan apartment, weathering the social storm brought on by the publication of an excerpt of his upcoming novel, the scandalous "Answered Prayers". Aided by copious amounts of pills, vodka, cocaine and chocolate truffles, one of America's greatest literary figures muses about his checkered life and career in this two-act monologue starring Todd Blakesley. The golden age of radio comes to life in the nostalgia-filled holiday favorite "The 1940's Radio Hour". It's December 1942, the world is at war and "Strike Up the Band" and "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" are topping the charts. New York's little-radio-station-that-could, WOV, is about to air its final broadcast of the holiday-themed "Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade" -- that is if the show's harried producer can corral a drunk lead singer, a delivery boy looking for his big break, a second banana who dreams of singing a ballad, and a trumpet-playing sound-effects man who chooses a fighter plane over Glenn Miller. Nominated for five Drama Desk Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1980, "The 1940's Radio Hour" is chock-full of favorites tunes -- including "Ain't She Sweet," "Blue Moon," "You Go to My Head" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" -- that'll guarantee you have a swingin' Christmas.
